Our History
Zesty Design is a business unit of the Timeless Technologies organisations which has been in operation for over 30 years. Timeless Technologies is an IT integrator, consultancy and solutions architect business that works with organisations from the scale of multi-nationals down to a micro business and provides the same level of professionalism and service no matter the client. They also look after Government departments in Australia of all types, federal departments, state government departments and local councils.
A challenge that Timeless Technologies encountered in its early years was how to help customers with their websites and domains. As a technical services provider, it was not capable of doing the design work that required an artistic touch to be effective. The technical parts of a website, the domains, the web hosting, email hosting, maintaining an existing site, all those things Timeless Technologies could do but the artistic work of designer the site was not a core expertise. Many customers had an existing web designer and generally the approach was to let the customer keep doing the web design with their incumbent and we would just look after the technical aspect. This came to lead to problems because the web designers were also generally artistic and not technical and from time to time, customers would experience outages or problems which we would initially conclude were technical in nature and after spending hours looking for the fault, would discover that the web designer had gotten into the system and changed something believing it did something with the website but not realising it would also stop email from working. After a number of such incidents with various providers in different customers, Timeless Technologies began to realise that leaving the website in the hands of others was not something that didn’t have consequences for the broader business, no matter what limits were in place. Web designers too were used to “owning” everything for the customer and so working with someone that limited them, felt to them as if they were untrusted and so often the web design work became more difficult and a fight about who was in control. This would lead to frustration for the customer and Timeless Technologies ethos is to allow customers to hand off the responsibility to worry about IT to us and let the customer focus on their business. Doing this but creating friction for the client was untenable.
The only solution that was possible was for Timeless Technologies to start a web design focused business unit that operated separately being in an artistic field from the technical but would be built upon the reliable and global platform that Timeless Technologies had built. The web design could be done as purely a function of design and all of the technical consideration were handled separately and externally from the design process. No one was upset they didn’t have full control and there was no friction to the customer. Although Timeless Technologies had no plan to be a Web Design business, it was the only path to a solution for our customers and ultimately, customers are number one for all Timeless Technologies operations.
Zesty Design is our second Web focused business unit with a focus on the smaller need websites and customers. Lively Design focuses on websites based on CMS with large content needs or ecommerce or large SEO or marketing requirements. It has systems and capabilities that would meet any customers entire online needs no matter the scale but its scale also means that for a small customer, needing a small site with limited or no maintenance, it isn’t a natural fit for a business unit built on rules, processes and proactive maintenance of customer’s resources. Zesty Design is our solution, as it is focused on websites that are generally static, don’t need complex systems to be built, ideally want to have no ongoing maintenance and will be set up once and then left to run for the foreseeable future until something with the client changes or the site needs a fresh start.
